Midwifery in Missions

We wanted to dive in with you on why we are doing what we are doing…and well, what exactly will we be doing! 🙂

I remember as a young girl wanting to be a nurse on the mission field. At the time, my dad was making frequent trips overseas to share Jesus with unreached people in other parts of the world, specifically in Asia. He would come home with stories and picture slides (early 90’s!) sharing of how God was moving and changing hearts. We invited foreign missionaries to stay with us and would sit around the table sharing the Heart of God and the love He was visibly pouring out on all nations. (Shout out to Mr. Pappy Daniels!) Through exposures like these and the faithful prayers of my parents-they more than likely weren’t praying for me to move 1000s of miles away, however!-for me to completely surrender my life to the will of God, here I am. I spent a month in India at age 18 and have been “ruined” by the Grace of God ever since!

I have been drawn to anything medical most of my life-but what finally captured my spirit at some point along the way, was midwifery. I began to read and research everything I could get my hands on involving this subject. I made the choice to have my babies with midwives-something I would do all over again-and have not stopped pursuing this call, as I wholeheartedly believe it is. I began to realize that this passion for helping mommas to birth babies was related to my heart for the nations. Part of our vision as a family is for me to become trained and equipped to serve cross-culturally as a midwife and to start or become a part of a birthing center in a third-world country. Being a midwife opens countless doors to countless opportunities-We cant wait to see the plans God has as we embrace these opportunities and continue to follow Him as He leads.

We are currently in prayer about where to receive further training as a missionary midwife that would simultaneously offer training for the rest of our family in their own unique gifting’s. We are talking with and researching an amazingly beautiful ministry that we share a similar vision and goals with called Gomidwife. GoMidwife exists to see birth workers equipped and released throughout the nations to teach and serve women during the childbearing years in rural, crisis and developing situations. Their focus is to use birth work as a tool to restore dignity, decrease mortality and express perfect love. They offer a 6 month didactic training, followed by a 12-36 month overseas apprenticeship in Africa. You can find out more about their ministry here:

Check out Gomidwife!

Check back soon as I will be sharing more about medical care for women in developing nations and Nate will be sharing what is on his own heart. And we love comments and shares!

Please pray with us that our hearts would be open to the leading of the Spirit. That we remember this is not about ourselves, it is for Him, by Him, and because of Him and His glory. We look forward to continuing this journey alongside each one of you!

Because of Love,

~Amie~
